Carer Strategy Consultation
Results updated 8 Sep 2022
Thank you for your interest in our carers’ survey. We’re currently processing postal submissions and will provide feedback on all the responses over the coming months, as we develop our new local Carers Strategy. In the meantime, we’re continuing to speak to carers who, very kindly, gave us their contact details, in order to explore their experiences and discuss their challenges further.
Thank you to everyone participating in consultation activities, we rely on your views to inform our future plans, and we are grateful to all for taking the time to engage with us.
Overview
This consultation is hosted by PKC in partnership with:
We want to hear the views of unpaid carers across Perth and Kinross. Our Joint Carer Strategy has been in place since 2019 and we want to refresh it so that we can provide improved support to unpaid carers. We need carers to tell us what works for them and what more support they would like. The following video tells you more about carers and why we are asking for your views.
Why your views matter
As the current Carers Strategy 2019-2022 draws to a close, we need to refresh it to ensure it answers the needs of carers. This is why we want to hear from you.
It is important for us to hear what unpaid carers think about the support they have in place, whether that is informal or from the Council or other providers. We also want to know about what challenges and barriers you have experienced in getting support and whether there is something you would like us to do or do differently.
We appreciate that unpaid carers play a vital, but often over-looked role in our communities. The Health and Social Care Partnership together with Education and Children’s Services are committed to improve the lives of carers to reduce the impact of caring on their health and wellbeing, and for young carers to be a child first and foremost.
The Carers Act (Scotland) 2016 placed a duty on Local Authorities and Health Boards to have a local Carers Strategy in place identifying the needs of their local unpaid carers, and to prepare this by consulting local carers about the help they have and what more help they need.
So, if you provide support to someone because they are becoming old and frail, have a disability or long-term health condition, mental ill-health or drug or alcohol use we would like to hear from you.
In addition to this survey, we will be providing opportunities to meet with carers and listen to views during June, July and August.
After the consultation closes, we will analyse the responses to see what types of support carers use most, what works for them and what they value and how we can improve the support we provide.
This will inform how we refresh of the current Strategy which we intend to publish before the end of the year,
This is a great opportunity for you to have your say on what matters most to you and we will do our best to take what you say to improve the services we provide.
