Your Short Breaks, Your Say

Closes 29 Oct 2021

Introduction

‘Short Breaks’ provides an opportunity for parents and carers to take a break from their caring responsibilities and recharge their batteries.  It also gives children and young people who have disabilities an opportunity to spend time away from their primary carers, build new supportive relationships and take part in new experiences.

Currently Woodlea Cottage provides a range of Short Breaks to meet the assessed needs of children and young people with disabilities, and their families.  Current services include:

  • Overnight, evening and day support for children and young people aged seven to school leaving age for children who have complex, multiple and enduring disabilities.
  • Outreach referral service to provide early intervention, focussed intensive behavioural support in the home for children and young people from birth to school leaving age.

Short Breaks are sometimes offered to families who meet the Children & Disability Eligibility Criteria. The purpose of the Eligibility Criteria is to be transparent with parents and professionals about how decisions are made, and to ensure that services are targeted at those with the highest levels of need consistently and fairly.
