  • Will the draft vision for parenting in Tayside and priorities for parenting help improve the experience of parents and outcomes for  families?
  • Is the draft Tayside Strategy for Parents focused on the things that you think we can do together to make the biggest difference?

You said

The strategy is focusing on things that are important to you as parents. The four priorities identified were the most important areas to concentrate on making improvements in. These are:

  • Access to good quality information
  • Communities are inclusive, understand children’s needs and support families to thrive
  • Access to effective services that are delivered by a skilled and confident workforce that value the role of parents
  • Policies that affect family life are supportive and deliver positive outcomes for families

We did

The consultation informed the development of the Draft Tayside Strategy for Parents 2019-2023.

Please note that the strategy name was changed from the Tayside Parenting Strategy to the Tayside Strategy for Parents, reflecting parental ownership and partnership in it design and delivery.

We undertook further consultation  with parents to find out what was important to them and what improvements were needed in relation to the priority areas.

Results updated 23 Jul 2019

The two month consultation involved an online survey and opportunities for practitioners working with groups of parents/carers to complete paper copies of the survey in a group setting resulted in 283 responses.

91% of parents agreed that the vision did address what they felt was most important and 93% felt that the four principles identified were the most important areas to concentrate on.  

85% of parents felt the data used to inform the strategy covered the things that were important to them as parents.

Overview

In May 2017 the three Community Planning Partnerships of Angus, Dundee and Perth & Kinross came together as The Tayside Collaborative and jointly agreed the Tayside Plan for Children, Young People and Families 2017-2020. This plan set out the following vision:

“Our children and young people will have the best start in life and Tayside will be the best place in Scotland to grow up.”

The Tayside Collaborative recognised the integral role of parents in achieving this vision and therefore one of its first steps was to seek parents views on the development of a Tayside Parenting Strategy .

Why your views matter

A number of sessions have been held with parents who helped to us develop a draft vision for parenting in Tayside.  These sessions also helped us to identify priorities that we think are the most important to deliver the vision.  We now want to hear your views about whether or not this vision and priorities will help improve the experience of parents and outcomes for their families. We are especially interested in:

  • finding out if you think we are considering the right data and information about the needs and challenges of parents.  We also want to if you have additional information that will help us understand more about the needs of parents in your area or parents that you work with.
  • finding out about interventions and approaches that are effective in improving outcomes for parents and their families or are showing promise of doing so in the Tayside area.  
  • finding out if the strategy is focused on the things that you think we can do together to make the biggest difference to parents and outcomes for their families.
