Local Landscape Area Review

Feedback updated 29 Apr 2026

We asked

We asked you whether there were any changes required to the Local Landscape Areas.

You said

Points to consider were raised around the Upper Strathearn LLA including Glen Lednock and Glen Tarken;  the Cleish Hills; and the River Devon Gorge as well as other extensions or suggested new areas.

We did

The points raised were considered by LUC and led to recommendations for changes in some areas, the most significant being to the Upper Strathearn LLA. The special qualities and forces for change sections have also been reviewed. You can view the report at www.pkc.gov.uk/ldp2landscape. There will be a further consultation alongside the proposed Local Development Plan (LDP2) on the adoption of the recommendations.

Overview

We are working with Land Use Consultants (LUC) to carry out a review of our Local Landscape Areas (LLAs). There are 11 areas of landscape that are important in the Perth and Kinross area and can be found in the Landscape Supplementary Guidance (please note that our map PDFs are not fully accessible at the moment, investigative work is ongoing to resolve this issue as soon as possible).

They inform planning applications where we ask developers to explain how proposals may impact the qualities of these areas.

Why your views matter

The original Local Landscape Areas were identified in 2014. Given changes in national policy and guidance since 2014 and changes to landscapes from development, it is important to review and update the current set of LLAs to ensure they remain fit for purpose and continue to recognise the special qualities of such landscapes.

We welcome contributions from all communities, groups and stakeholders with an interest in their landscapes. These will help us to review the boundaries and special qualities of these landscapes.

The revised LLAs will form part of the next Local Development Plan.

What happens next

Information from the LUC survey will be used to help them review the boundaries and special qualities of the Local Landscape Areas. The results of the survey will be posted on our landscape page. The review will then be incorporated into new guidance and the next Local Development Plan proposed plan. A further chance to comment on the outcome of the review will be provided through those processes.
