Draft Open Space Strategy

Overview

Open spaces, including parks, play areas, sports facilities, natural greenspaces, community spaces and paths, make an important contribution to the health, wellbeing, environment and quality of life of people across Perth and Kinross. The Draft Open Space Strategy sets out a vision and priorities for protecting, improving and enhancing these spaces, ensuring they continue to meet the needs of our communities now and in the future.

This is the first Open Space Strategy for Perth and Kinross. It has been prepared to meet national planning requirements and will help inform future planning decisions, including the preparation of the next Local Development Plan.

Linkages between the Perth and Kinross Draft Forestry and Woodland Strategy, Open Space Strategy and Nature Networks Guidance Consultations.

The Forestry and Woodland Strategy, Open Space Strategy and Nature Networks guidance are intended to all work together to help create greener, healthier and more connected places.  The Forestry and Woodland Strategy identifies where woodlands should be protected, improved and expanded, while the Open Space Strategy helps plan and manage parks, greenspaces and other outdoor areas that people use and enjoy.  Nature Networks bring these elements together by creating connections between habitats, helping wildlife move more easily through the landscape and making nature more resilient.

By working together, these strategies will help the Council meet its responsibilities under the Planning (Scotland) Act 2019, support nature recovery, tackle climate change, improve access to high-quality greenspaces, and create healthier, more sustainable places for people and wildlife.

These documents will help to inform the preparation of the Perth and Kinross Local Development Plan 3 and support delivery of wider national objectives relating to climate change, nature recovery and placemaking contained within National Planning Framework 4.

Why your views matter

We encourage you to review the Draft Open Space Strategy and share your views through this survey. Your feedback will help shape the future planning, management and improvement of open spaces across Perth and Kinross.

The survey also provides an opportunity to comment on the sites included in the Open Space Audit, which has informed the strategy. This will help ensure our assessment accurately reflects the open spaces that are important to local communities and identifies any gaps in current provision.

Your views are important to us, and we appreciate your time and feedback.
