Loch Leven Special Protection Area and Ramsar Site Guidance

Overview

The Loch Leven Special Protection Area and Ramsar Site Guidance relates to the protection of the Loch Leven Catchment Area. Loch Leven is designated as a Special Protection Area (SPA) and RAMSAR site. SPA and RAMSAR sites are internationally important wildlife sites. The guidance provides advice on the implementation of Policy 46 in the Local Development Plan 2. It descibes the steps new development must take to protect the loch and setting out the information to be provided in planning applications. The document was prepared in consultation with Scottish Natural Heritage and Scottish Environment Protection Agency.

Why your views matter

The Loch Leven Special Protection Area and Ramsar Site Guidance was last updated by Perth & Kinross Council in November 2016. This consultation draft is a technical update of the existing 2016 guidance with an added requirement for evidence of the installation of phosphorus mitigation measures to be provided to the Planning Authority.

This consultation will provide an opportunity for all stakeholders to make comment on the proposed changes to the adopted Guidance. All responses to the consultation will be fully considered and will be used to inform any further modifications.

Strategic Environmental Assessment

Based on the criteria that are set out in the Environmental Assessment (Scotland) Act 2005, we concluded that the proposed changes to the guidance are likely to have no or minimal environmental effects. Our Pre-screening Notification sets this out in more detail.

What happens next

This consultation has now closed. Your comments are valuable because they will be used to shape the final version of the guidance.

The Council will consider the issues raised in the comments that were made during the consultation. We will prepare a report setting out the comments we received and an explanation of how these comments were taken into account when preparing and finalising the guidance. The finalised guidance will be issued and adopted and will be used when determining planning applications.
