The committee report and appendix, which details the outcomes of the options appraisal, provide further information on the feedback received from parents/carers.
We did
The committee report was presented to Lifelong Learning Committee on 26 May 2021 which recommended that the school capacity of 44 pupils would be retained along with the existing catchment area and no nursery provision would be included within Abernyte Primary School.
The committee decision was as follows;
- It be noted that the school roll has risen recently and the projected school roll is due to rise again for session 2021/2022 at Abernyte Primary School. The school roll will be the highest it has been since 2010.
- The capacity of 44 pupils at Abernyte Primary School would remain and a statutory consultation on a proposal to amend the catchment area for Abernyte Primary School to include the area currently within the Inchture Primary School catchment area north of the A90 within the catchment of Abernyte Primary School is to be undertaken;
- It be noted that the introduction of nursery provision is not required at Abernyte Primary School at this time.
Overview
Perth & Kinross Council Lifelong Learning Committee is considering whether the catchment area of Abernyte Primary School should be extended, and/or a nursery established at the school.
Why your views matter
On 4 November 2020 Lifelong Learning Committee approved the scope and principles to be used to underpin an options appraisal to be developed for a further catchment review for Abernyte Primary School. The introduction of nursery provision at Abernyte Primary School will also be considered as part of the options appraisal.
Education and Children’s Services are seeking the views of parents/carers of any child/children currently attending primary school and/or children under the age of five living in the catchment areas identified as part of the catchment review. If the catchment area changes, it could mean that your local school would change from either Inchture Primary School or Longforgan Primary School to Abernyte Primary School.

What happens next
An options appraisal will be developed which will be presented to Lifelong Learning Committee. The options appraisal will make a recommendation on next steps which may include progressing with the catchment review and/or nursery provision, retaining the status quo or another proposal.
An options appraisal looks in detail at a wide range of information related to the school. These are likely to include aspects such as future pupil projections, population, planned house building, the condition and suitability of the school, improvements to the school buildings, travel arrangements, financial information, educational benefits and community impact.
Information gathered through the consultation exercise with parents/carers will be contained within the options appraisal although information presented will be anonymised so no one individual can be identified.
