Your Food Growing Needs
Overview
The aim of this survey is to let you know about the current community food growing provision within Perth and Kinross and to direct you to a suitable growing space.
Please note that allotment sites across Perth and Kinross are managed by individual allotment associations which are run by groups of volunteers who manage the waiting lists, finances and day-to day running of the sites.
Unlike other local authorities, we do not allocate allotment plots, this can only be done by the allotment associations themselves.
In areas where there are no allotment plots available and there is proven sufficient demand, including accessible food growing opportunities, we will take reasonable steps to meet this demand by providing new growing spaces where possible.

Why your views matter
There are many different types of food growing spaces for you to become involved in
- Allotment Associations
- Community Gardens
- Community Farms
- Community Orchards
- Food Growing Groups
- Community led agriculture
We want to hear from you whether you're looking for an allotment plot, you wish to highlight an area that you think is suitable for food growing or you want to know more about how to get involved with community food growing projects.
The Community Empowerment (Scotland) Act 2015 – Allotments imposes a duty on local authorities to take reasonable steps to do the following:
- provide sufficient allotments to keep the waiting list at no more than half of the authority’s current number of allotments
- ensure that a person entered on the waiting list does not remain on it for a continuous period of more than 5 years
By telling us of your food growing needs we'll be able to keep you informed of any food growing opportunities which may arise in your area. By understanding the demand for allotments we can start taking reasonable steps to ensure that no one is on a waiting list for more than 5 years.
