We asked

We asked for your views on the potential for secondary provision at a  joint 2-18 community learning campus which could accommodate pupils from Angus, Dundee and Perth & Kinross.

You said

Of the 243 Perth and Kinross responses, 194 (80%) were supportive of the proposal, 30 (12%) were unsure and 19 (8%) were against the proposal.

Of the 194 responses in favour of the proposal 85% of parents/carers said they would send their children to the joint 2-18 community learning campus if the proposal was to proceed.

We did

The following recommendations were agreed at Perth and Kinross Council’s Lifelong Learning Committee on 4 September 2019.

  1. The progress that has been made through collaboration between the three local authorities be noted.
  2. It be noted that the explanatory work that has been undertaken has clarified that the joint 2-18 community learning campus is not the right solution for each authority area at this time.
  3. Agree that the Executive Director (Education and Children’s Services) ceases involvement in the exploration of a joint 2-18 community learning campus at this time and focuses on the improvement of the existing learning estate.
  4. Request the Executive Director to relay the Lifelong Learning Committee’s ongoing commitment to partnership working on innovative collaborative projects related to the learning estate and the learner journey.

Following consultation with communities in all 3 Council areas, a report was presented to Perth and Kinross Council’s Lifelong Learning Committee on 4 September 2019.

Overview

Perth & Kinross Council are exploring the potential for a joint 2-18 community learning campus which could accommodate pupils from Angus, Dundee and Perth & Kinross. It is anticipated this campus would be located in West Dundee/South Angus/East Carse. Perth & Kinross are looking only for secondary provision.

Why your views matter

In January 2019, the Lifelong Learning Committee gave approval for informal engagement with communities to begin to assess the level of support for working with Angus and Dundee Councils to potentially deliver a joint community learning campus (Report No 19/33  refers). For Perth & Kinross this engagement is being focused on communities in the Carse of Gowrie due to proximity to the potential campus.

An initial programme of informal consultation has been developed. A number of drop-in sessions are planned to take place in locations throughout Angus, Dundee and Perth & Kinross. The dates are detailed below. The events are open to all members of the community. At the sessions we will present information on the possible development and provide an opportunity to share your views.

Should you require any further information to help inform your response, please see the ‘Related’ section below.

An online survey is also available. The survey will be open from Tuesday 23 April 2019 until Friday 7 June 2019.

What happens next

The Consultation has now closed. Thank you for your input. We will be considering the feedback from all respondents and will post the results on this page in September 2019.
